Who Is the Prize Winner? In the DPRK, there are several prizes that are conferred on literary works written by school children.

Children’s Literature Prize among them is a diploma conferred by the editorial department of magazine Childrens Literature in Art and Literature Publishing House on the best one among the literary works sent by school children every year.

10-year old boy Jong Hang Myong, a member of the Children’s Union, is one of the Children’s Literature Prize winners in 2022.

Jong is the son of a Korean People’s Army officer who serves on Jangjae Islet.

One early morning in August 2012, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un came to the islet by a small wooden boat.

Men and officers of the islet defence detachment greeted Kim Jong Un with hearty cheers. Seeing a woman rushing towards him with her baby, Kim Jong Un took the baby Jong Hang Myong in his arms.

In March next year when he came to the islet again, Kim Jong Un visited Jong’s home and gave him gifts blessing the first anniversary of his birthday.

Jong, who has grown up under the leader’s care, is now a fourth-year pupil of a revolutionary school.

A child poem The Day I Enter a School written by Jong was selected and he became a winner of the Children’s Literature Prize, which was carried on newspapers Rodong Sinmun and Sonyon Sinmun.

The people call Jong a blessed child on Jangjae Islet.
