In winter 1939, President Kim Il Sung issued an order to the anti-Japanese guerrillas on the march to set up camps and a makeshift stage.

The guerrillas cut down poplars to improvise a stage, made a large tent by patching up several small ones and posted the programme of performance.

The curtain was opened at the sound of a whistle and a variety of items, such as choral singing, vocal solos and dancing, were staged. The last item was a sketch showing the life of the guerrillas.

Those who newly joined the guerrilla army wondered at the large stage in the forest and the colouful concert.

Some of them volunteered to sing songs on the stage.

The concert staged that day imbued the anti-Japanese guerrillas with invincible faith and courage
