One June day in 1926, President Kim Il Sung had his first-day lessons after entering the Hwasong Uisuk School. When the lessons were over, many students gathered around Kim Il Sung.

Young people in their twenties recommended from the companies of the Independence Army asked Kim Il Sung what made him join the Independence Army at his early age. Kim Il Sung told them that he had never served the Independence Army but came to the school to devote his all to the liberation of the country which had been deprived of by the Japs, true to his father’s lifetime intention to achieve national independence.

Kim Il Sung clearly and logically explained problems raised during lessons, thus surprising not only students and teachers of the school but its headmaster and other veterans in the Independence Army. That day the students realized that the secret to having surprised them was not only his inborn disposition but his high aim.
