Juche

     The Tower of the Juche idea has been built as a grand monumental edifice of the Juche era, reflecting the earnest desire of the Korean people and the world progressives to admire and convey to posterity the greatness and invincible vitality of the immortal Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung.

    Leader Kim Jong Il said to the following effect:

    The Tower of the Juche idea is a historic monument reflecting desire and aspiration of our people and the world revolutionary people to defend and add shine to the Juche idea, a great guiding idea in our era, an independent era founded by the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and is displaying its might as a common artistic treasure of the humankind all over the world.

    The Tower of the Juche idea has been built on April 15, 1982 on the occasion of the 70^th birthday of President Kim Il Sung. It stands on the Taedong river of east Pyongyang opposite to Kim Il Sung Square

    It is the highest stone tower in the world.

    The Tower of the Juche idea consists of a group of grand architectures with a torch, a trio group of worker, peasant and working intellectual, subsidiary sculptural groups, pavilions on the both sides of the tower, two large fountains in the midstream of the Taedong river, all of which form a grand epical picture on the vast area.

    The tower is 170 metres high(its body is 150 metres high and its torch is 20 metres high and its torch weighs 30 tons and the saucer holding the torch weighs 15 tons). The faces of the tower are furnished with a total of 70 blocks(its two faces, front and rear, are dressed with 18 blocks respectively and its two lateral sides, with 17 blocks each), which symbolize the 70^th birthday of President Kim Il Sung.

    The torch describes a flame flaring up high in the sky, which stands for the immortal Juche idea and its great victory. Its pole is a golden circle, which is in harmony with the depiction of a flame both in style and colour.

    On the two faces, front and rear of the tower body, are relieved letters “Ju Che” (each letter is 4.3m high and 3.8m wide).

    The facade of the pedestal has a panel(4m high and 15 m long) inscribed with a paean praising the immortal revolutionary feats and benevolence of President Kim Il Sung who opened a bright vista of rebirth for the Korean nation that were on the crossroad of life and death and made the Korean people the most dignified and proud ones. The right and left sides of the panel are relieved by the floral basket(the height of the panel is 4 m and its length is 15m) of Kimilsungias and magnolias in reflection of boundless reverence to President Kim Il Sung. On the arch of the back side of the pedestal are choice stones of different colours and patterns, on which letters of wishes are written, sent by leaders, political and public figures, and the adherents to the Juche idea from various countries. On the pedestal are decoratively relieved 70 Kimilsungias and magnolias in order to emphasize the significance of building the tower on the occasion of the 70^th birthday of President Kim Il Sung.

    The basic idea of the Tower of the Juche idea that crystallize the immortal revolutionary feats performed by President Kim Il Sung is comprehensive victory of the Juche idea, a great revolutionary banner in the era of independence.

    The Tower of the Juche idea shows that the Juche idea is, indeed, an immortal truth and ever-victorious banner for human emancipation and victory in revolution through the formative representation reflecting not only the revolutionary spirit of the popular masses, who are advancing vigorously for the consummation of the revolutionary cause of Juche, upholding the torch of the Juche idea but also the great vitality of the Juche idea. It also highly praises the greatness and brilliant revolutionary feats of President Kim Il Sung who founded the immortal Juche idea that takes the highest and most brilliant place in the history of human thought.

     The Tower of the Juche idea was erected by the plan and wise guidance of leader Kim Jong Il ranging from its initiative to selecting its location, completing its miniature, its designing and building.

    The Tower of the Juche idea stands high and shines all over the world as an immortal grand monument to convey to posterity the greatness and revolutionary feats of President Kim Il Sung who founded the immortal Juche idea and opened up the age of Juche, new era of the history, as a symbol of boundless trust and reverence of the Korean people and the world revolutionary people for President Kim Il Sung and as the greatest monument of the humankind and a masterpiece of Juche-based architecture.
