    On September 5, 1998 media of many countries of the world paid attention at once to the broadcast of Pyongyang.

    That was because a new state leadership body would be established and the President of the DPRK elected at the 1^st session of the 10^th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK within a few minutes.

    Everyone undoubtedly believed that Kim Jong Il would be elected the President of the DPRK. Some pressmen thought this an established fact and finished articles already, expecting the DPRK would be full of cheers.

    However, as soon as the Korean Central News Agency started to report the news on the meeting, the world became silent with surprise for a moment.

    The news was beyond expectation because it reported the resolution of the meeting to hold Kim Il Sung in high esteem as an eternal President of the DPRK.

    What does it mean?

    The world thought that it would probably be a symbolic meaning, but the world was immediately more astonished.

    At the election of the state leadership body Kim Jong Il was elected the chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission that had been assigned to him by President Kim Il Sung in his lifetime. Policy speech was also substituted by the recorded policy speech made by President Kim Il Sung at the 1^st session of the 9^th Supreme People’s Assembly.

    Thus, Kim Il Sung was elected the eternal President of the DPRK by the absolute support and trust of the people even after his demise.

    The world was surprised at the unexpected result of the meeting.

    It was an established custom to elect a head of state on that day or no later than 20-odd days when his predecessor died.

    However, what is in the mind of Kim Jong Il who gives eternal glory to President Kim Il Sung, even in the election which took place after full 4 years?

    One day of the mourning ceremony Kim Jong Il said that President Kim Il Sung enjoyed respect and reverence from the Korean people and the world progressives for his special contribution to the country and the people, to the world and humankind.

    He said that it was his strong will to hold Kim Il Sung in high esteem as the only and sole President, the first and the eternal President in the history of our country.
