    Leader Kim Jong Il conducted energetic ideological and theoretical activities to put forward the Juche-oriented ideology and theory on literature and art that are regarded as a programmatic guide and an immortal banner of the socialist literature and art, the art and literature of an independent era.

    The Juche-oriented ideology and theory on art and literature put forward by leader Kim Jong Il are based on the Juche-oriented outlook on literature and art and apply it in large.

    He wrote a number of immortal classic works such as “On the art of cinema”, “The Juche-oriented literature”, “On the art of the drama”, “On the art of the opera”, “On the art of music”, “On the fine art”, “On the art of dance” and “On architecture”, thus comprehensively clarifying the principles for creating and building literature and art in a new way.

    He put forward the original theory on the Juche-oriented humanics and unfolded a new history of creating works representing the leader. It is also an encyclopedic theory that gives a perfect scientific answer to all theoretical and practical problems in creating and building literature and art in conformity with the requirement of the independent era and the aspiration of the popular masses.

    Leader Kim Jong Il wrote immortal classic masterpieces in person, thus setting a genuine model of literature and art of the independent era, the socialist literature and art.

    In the early days of his teens he wrote such poems of extraordinary ideological and artistic value as “The Embrace of My Motherland”, “Song of Best Wishes”, “Our Classroom”, “My Mother”, “Greeting the Sun Rising over the Taedong River” and so on.

    In his university days, he created immortal classic masterpieces such as “O Korea, I will Add Glory to Thee���, “I will Carry on the March Started from Mt. Paektu”, etc. to provide a treasure of the socialist literature and art.

    Leader Kim Jong Il created the monumental piece such as “Where Are You, Dear General?” in the 1970s when he guided the work in the sector of literature and art.

    In his immortal classic masterpieces he put to the fore the matter on the revolutionary view on the leader that is fundamental in the revolution and construction of our era and profoundly clarified the matter of holding President Kim Il Sung in high esteem and following him with loyalty in artistic way.

    Indeed, his classic masterpieces are genuine models of the literature and art in our era, the socialist literature and art with their ideological and artistic characteristics.

    While guiding the work of literature and art, leader Kim Jong Il put forward the policy to bring about a revolution in literature and art and saw to it that an epoch was made in it through the process of adapting in cinemas, operas, dramas and novels the immortal classic masterpieces written by President
Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.

    He set it as the main principle to make a breakthrough by giving stress on the cinema art and generalize the success in the whole field of art and literature and pushed ahead with adapting the classic masterpieces of the President in cinemas. As a result, such masterpieces as “The Sea of Blood”, “The Fate of a Self-defence Corp Man” and “The Flower Girl” were adapted in cinemas successfully on a high level in a short period of time and in this process a revolutionary turn was brought about in the development of cinema art.

    He led them to make a revolution in the production of operas and create the “The Sea of blood”-style operas, new type of revolutionary operas through adapting “The Sea of Blood”, the immortal classic masterpiece as the opera of our age. He led them to write all the songs in verses and newly introduce Pangchang instead of the recitative that had been considered as a main depictive mean in the preceding operas, thus improving the depictive function in every way. He also gave a detailed guidance to the work of introducing dance and making stage art three-dimensional. As a result, he brilliantly carried out the historic cause of creating the “The Sea of Blood”-style opera, a new type of revolutionary opera that was basically distinguished from the preceding operas.

    Leader Kim Jong Il also put forward the original policy on making revolution in the drama art and led them to eliminate outmoded patterns and diagrammatic forms and create new type of revolutionary dramas, “The Shrine”-style drama reflecting the need of the new era including a new form of multi-scene plot, running three-dimensional stage set and distinctive music, so that he opened up a new era of development of drama art.

    In addition he wisely organized and led the work to bring about a radical turn in all sectors of literature, music, fine arts, dance and acrobat, and thus took measures to bring about revolutionary change of transforming and newly developing various kinds of literature and art as required by Juche.

    He saw to it that revolutionary art and literature was created in conformity with the requirement of the Songun era, thus greeting a new heyday in art and literature.

    Seeing through a big role of writers and artists in creating and building literature and art, he showed great love and trust for them, so that they could successfully produce good works contributing to the implementation of the socialist cause without any vacillation or hesitation even in the complicated adversities of the history.

    Thanks to the extraordinary wisdom and outstanding leadership of leader Kim Jong Il who regards literature and art as a companion and a powerful weapon in life and struggle and has a firm faith that the revolution started with a song should be consummated with a song, Korea is demonstrating itself as a land of art all over the world.

    Korea’s literature and art, that is guided by leader Kim Jong Il who fully personifies intelligence and talent of the humankind on the highest phase and has extraordinary wisdom, deep insight, outstanding leadership and noble virtues, will always advance vigorously along the road of victory and glory in the new century, too.
