Kim Myong Wol is an oculist in the General Hospital of the North Hwanghae Province. Kim is one of the people who have pride and honour of being the DPRK citizens and perform duties assigned before the state and society with sincerity and conscience.

When she became an oculist after her graduation from a college, an aged doctor told Kim a following story.

In August, 1960 when Kim Il Sung attended the National Meeting of the Vanguards in the Chollima Work-team Movement, he was told that a youth work-team leader did not see and said that it would be painful for the blind people as they could not see wonderful realities of the country. Kim Il Sung said that he felt painful whenever he received suggestions from the blind people’s union.

Keeping Kim Il Sung’s saying deep in mind, Kim gave medical treatment to thousands of blind people and made them see for over 20 years since she started to work as an oculist.

Needless to say, Kim worked day and night in order to be an expert at new methods and invent equipment for operation. She devoted her all to make patients regain strength before operation in case their health conditions were poor. She even transplanted her conjunctiva to a worker who had lost his eyesight.

She went round the city and counties of the province every year to treat people’s eyes. Sometimes she operated on tens of patients a day.

When a young doctor asked Kim how she stood mental and physical stress, she answered that she did not notice how time went by as she was engrossed in thoughts to give eyesight to possibly more people and have them see images of the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Kim brought eyesight to thousands of the blind people with high ability and sincere devotion, and they call Kim our doctor, our mother.

As she has worked with warm humanity and spirit of making selfless, devoted efforts for the country and the people, the title of a merited person of socialist patriotism was awarded to Kim.
