On February 16, 2007, the International Kim Il Sung Prize Council conferred the International Kim Il Sung Prize on leader Kim Jong Il.
International Kim Il Sung Prize was initiated for the first time by Vishwanath(Indian), secretary-general of the board of directors of the International Institute of the Juche Idea and was instituted on April 13, 1993.
International Kim Il Sung Prize is conferred on the distinguished activists and figures in political and social circles and the Juche idea followers who have followed the Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung, made devoted efforts to apply it and made special contribution to the global independence and peace.
The International Kim Il Sung Prize Council decided to confer the International Kim Il Sung Prize on leader Kim Jong Il who had made distinguished contribution to the deepening and development of the Juche idea and the independent cause of mankind, on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The decision to confer the International Kim Il Sung Prize on Kim Jong Il was adopted in New Delhi, on February 1, 2007.
A ceremony of conferring the International Kim Il Sung Prize on leader Kim Jong Il took place at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on February 15.
