     The life of the great leader President Kim Il Sung is the life of the peerlessly great man who created the idea and evolved the theory on the independent development of national economy and brilliantly applied it.

    President Kim Il Sung said.

    “For complete national independence and sovereignty and for national prosperity and development, one must build an independent national economy and thus firmly ensure economic independence.”

    President Kim Il Sung is the distinguished thinker, theoretician and strategist who enforced the policy of building the independent national economy for the first time in history.

    The idea of building the independent national economy was created in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle by President Kim Il Sung who planned the future building of a new society in the liberated country.

    By applying this idea, President Kim Il Sung put forth the policy of building the independent national economy already in the early period of building a new society after liberation of the country.

    Whether to build the independent economy or the economy dependant on foreign country after the liberation was an important issue relating to the destiny of the country and the future of the revolution.

    It was a new issue as the previous working-class leaders could not have clarified how to build the economy in those countries that were newly liberated from the imperialist colonial system.

    It is one of the special contributions made by President Kim Il Sung to the consummation of the cause of people’s independence, the cause of socialism that he set forth a new unique policy of building the independent national economy that was not clarified by the previous theory of scientific socialism.

    Setting the building of the independent national economy as the general direction of building the socialist economy, President Kim Il Sung set forth Juche-oriented policies at each stage of economic construction and led our people’s struggle to achieve independent development of the national economy according to the most revolutionary and scientific strategy and tactics without the slightest deviation from the stand of independence.

    On the basis of overall analysis of the lawful requirement of the socialist economic construction and the concrete situation of our country, President Kim Il Sung set forth the main policy of socialist economic construction on developing light industry and agriculture simultaneously while giving priority to the development of heavy industry.

    And he set it as the strategic policy of the socialist economic construction to make the national economy Juche-oriented, modernized and scientific, and he set forth the policies such as socialist industrialization, evolved the theory of technical revolution, theory of simultaneously developing large-size production and medium- or small-size production, etc. according to the requirement of each stage of the economic construction.

    His theories and policies were new and innovative ones that correctly reflect the people’s demand and the country’s situation. And these policies integrate the solutions of the theoretical and practical problems arising in building the independent economy in a comprehensive and scientific way.

    President Kim Il Sung who issued the policy of building the independent national economy by applying the immortal Juche idea is the great man who possesses distinguished ideological and theoretical wisdom and quality unavailable in the any famous politician or theoretician recorded in history.

    He is the genius of creation and construction who has built dignified independent and powerful socialist country in Korea with his brave and strong revolutionary practice.

    After the liberation, Korean economy was subordinated and very backward economy with colonial one-sidedness and at that it was completely destroyed by the 3-year war started by the US imperialists.

    But the Korean people successfully finished the post-war rehabilitation on debris in a little more than 3 years and continuously struggled to fulfill the historic task of industrialization in a short span of 14 years that took a full century or more in other countries, thus creating heroic merit of building the powerful independent national economy.

    This is totally attributed to the seasoned and wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

    By applying the Juche idea, he defined self-reliance as the main principle of building the independent economy and constantly adhered to it.

    The independent national economy requires self-reliance from its essential characteristics.

    We can develop economy actively at a high rate and ensure national prosperity against all difficulties only when we mobilize our own strength and natural resources and depend on our own fund and technique on the principle of self-reliance.

    Giving priority to arming the people with the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance in every stage of the revolutionary development that always accompanied difficulties, President Kim Il Sung wisely led our people to solve all problems arising in the economic construction on our own by believing our own strength and mobilizing the internal reserves.

    The wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung who led us to adhere to the principle of self-reliance in the economic construction served as the decisive factor that enabled the Korean people to successfully fulfill the tasks for building the independent national economy, turning disfavours into favours in the unprecedentedly difficult conditions.

    He maintained the revolutionary mass line by which we can solve all problems arising in building the independent national economy by believing the people and depending on their strength.

    The Korean people’s struggle to build the independent national economy took place under the complicated and difficult conditions.

    President Kim Il Sung always believed our people’s strength, whenever difficult problems propped up.

    Regarding on-the-spot guidance as the most powerful method to mobilize the masses, he visited factories, farms, timber villages and fishery villages continuously from the first period of building a new society to the last moment of his life.

    Finding himself always among the people, he gave full play to their revolutionary zeal and creative initiatives, leading the people to successfully fulfill the arduous and huge tasks arising in the economic construction.

    Great Chollima upsurge started in Kangson Steel Plant and followed in other places and the mass heroism displayed in fulfilling the tasks in every stage of building the independent socialist national economy are the fruit of his mass leadership method.

    He implemented to the last the Party’s policy of building the independent economy, smashing the counter-revolutionary offensives of the enemies home and abroad who challenged our forward movement, with his strong revolutionary conviction and gut.

    The process of building the independent national economy in Korea was the continuation of acute confrontation with all sorts of reactionary forces. Especially in the middle of the 1950s, the modern revisionists emerged in the international labour movement claimed so-called “integrated economy” and expressed their view that other countries except the former Soviet Union must develop “economically and geographically favorable fields” for them and “the fields that conform to their national tradition and production experience” and forced us to join the CMEA. When their force did not work, the big power chauvinists blamed our policy of building the independent national economy, calling it “nationalist tendency” and “closed economy.”

    Regarding the economic independence as the lifeline of the political independence and national prosperity, President Kim Il Sung smashed flatly the enemy’s counter-revolutionary sophism and dominationist moves with the independent conviction and gut.

    Thanks to his strong conviction and gut, the Korean people could maintain the independent stand without agitation and built the independent socialist economy that is looked upon by progressive humanity, though many east European socialist countries developed their economy depending on the big country by the force of the big power chauvinists.

    The socialist independent national economy, the heritage of President Kim Il Sung is consolidated and developed on a new leaping stage under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
