    The Sojang seafood direct sales shop located on a bank of the Pothong River in Pyongyang is associated with the parental love of Leader Kim Jong Il who spares nothing for the people.

     On March 2, 1983, Leader Kim Jong Il stressed that officials should pay deep attention to people’s livelihood.

     He told them that the most important is to solve the food problem satisfactorily in improving the people’s standard of living; as the President taught many a time, a man can lead a life without being well dressed, but can not live without eating; if the people are supplied with various kinds of foodstuffs including a lot of subsidiary foods, their dietary life can become better. He continuously mentioned the management of the seafood direct sales shop in Sojang-dong (Pothonggang district, Pyongyang) which was newly opened at that time.

     The shop was set up by the proposal of Leader Kim Jong Il.

     He went out to the spot in person to choose the site for the shop, took a measure to carry fresh fish in time from the ports of the Korean East Sea and the Korean West Sea and taught in detail the form and method of sale.

     He said: they usually say not to do a losing business, but we have to do even a losing business for the people; if we can provide people with a happy life, we must not spare even government money; officials must work a lot not for making money but for serving the people.

     Thanks to the meticulous guidance of Leader Kim Jong Il, seafood direct sales shops have been set up in several places in Pyongyang, thus supplying people with various kinds of fresh fish through all seasons.
