     It was on Feb 16, 1963 which observed leader Kim Jong Il’s birthday.

    The students requested leader Kim Jong Il to celebrate his birthday together with them even though frugally.

    Listening to their ardent request, he said that he was most grateful to them for their sincerity and comradely love, but could not celebrate his birthday.

    They felt very sorry.

    Reading their minds, leader Kim Jong Il said that the President did not celebrate his birthday until today though he had been dedicating his all life for the country and people, and that how could he celebrate his birthday when the President was devoting his labor to the prosperity of the country and people’s happiness.

    Then he instructed them that they should only think about how they could lessen the President’s apprehensions and labor to give him ease even a moment and how they could repay the President’s favor and care better, and that herein lies the true happiness of the revolutionary soldier.

    His instruction about the true happiness of the revolutionary soldier gave them a great shock.

    After a while, leader Kim Jong Il said that the people could enjoy happiness and the bright future be provided only when the President was in good health, and that they should devote themselves to lessen the President’s apprehensions and labor and afford him delight and satisfaction at anytime and anywhere. This should be the starting point of the revolutionary soldier’s all works and lives and regard it as an inexorable iron rule of life.

    He further said earnestly that they should not be disappointed at his refusal of their request, and that he, in the future, too, would value their ardent love and active assistance and share sorrow and joy with them.

    What he said on his significant birthday was a noble formulation of genuine view on life of revolutionary and it has been served as a motto of the life and struggle of the Korean people.
