In October of the previous year when he visited the completed Pyongyang Baby Home and Orphanage he made a promise that he would come on New Year’s Day. The Supreme Leader visited them as soon as he finished the New Year Address to keep the promise.

He continued… I am happy to greet New Year’s Day with the orphans as they have been provided with such a good place to live. I am more confident of having done things worthwhile even though they are toilsome. Looking at them I am sure that future of our country will be bright.
The Supreme Leader heard the orphans telling him a dream that they put on pretty clothes provided by him and sang songs in front of him, a pride they ate confectionary, fish and honey. Indeed, he looked like their real father.
Appreciating the New Year’s performance prepared by the orphans that day and clapping hands for them, the Supreme Leader clapped hands for them when they were singing… We looked forward to seeing you, the Marshal. We have a palace-like new home built by you and we like it very much. Thank you, father Marshal
When he saw them singing, the Supreme Leader was moved to tears. Both the children on the stage and those who saw their performance shed tears. After the performance the Supreme Leader took a souvenir picture with the orphans.
He stressed… All the facilities in the Pyongyang Baby Home and Orphanage were compressed with advantages of the socialist health system of our country. The officials and employees should fulfill their responsibility so that the children can be provided with the Party’s love as it is. It is necessary to cultivate good moral traits, creative and independent ability so that the KPA soldier, doctor or hero can be produced among them. To this end, nurseries and kindergarteners should possess of motherly love and be equipped with high quality of educators. It is also necessary to make the children know how to have meal and wash hands, make bed and tidy up clothes and even what their shamefulness is.
