Among the numerous battles that show a part of President Kim Il Sung’s mysterious strategies in the period of anti-Japanese armed struggle, there was an exciting battle in which many enemies were killed not by gunfire but were frozen to death.

One winter day in 1938 the unit personally led by the President arrived at Nanpaizi Mengjiang County.

A thousand and hundreds of enemies suddenly appeared and blocked the way of the guerrillas.

The enemies prepared “a definite punitive battle”, thinking that the battle against the guerrillas who were very exhausted after long days of march would be the last one.

At that time the guerrillas were much smaller than the enemies in number.

Being self-conceited of their quantitative superiority, the enemies overtly set up tents on the river bank.

The President who at once caught the weak-point of the enemies who were in indolent and slack mood, looked around the surroundings carefully.

There was a high hill on the west bank of the river. After thinking of something while looking at the hill, the President gave commanding orders with confidence.

He ordered to make a preemptive strike against the enemies and entice the escaping enemies to the hill in the west in order to wipe them out to the last.

That night a sudden strike was dealt to the enemies.

The guerrillas opened severe fire to the enemies while jumping like agile tigers into the centre of the enemies’ camps. The enemies’ camps were turned into anthill. The enemies who were screaming and running about here and there on bare feet fell down dead in groups. Alive ones by chance ran away towards the hill in the west where the guerrillas left for them.

The eyes of the guerrillas were burning looking at the enemies running away.

They were eager to chase and sweep them out at once but they just attacked the enemies who were resisting around the camping place, ignoring the escaping enemies as ordered by the President.

This being the situation, the number of the enemies running away towards the hill increased.

The enemies ran to the hill for their lives even throwing away their rifles but couldn’t know that that was a trap for them. The guerrillas who had swept out the enemies that were firing behind the camps to the last, headed towards the hill where others ran away. The more deeply the guerrillas went into the mountain, the more corpses of the enemies who were dead, failing to pull their legs out of the deep snow they could see. Even the alive ones were frozen nearly to death.

It was really an exciting annihilation operation.

In this battle many enemies were shot to death but more were frozen to death.

This legendary story that the President annihilated the majority of enemies by freezing tactics in the fierce battlefield arouses admiration of the President among the army and people.
