In his reminiscences With the Century President Kim Il Sung wrote that, whenever he was asked the question why the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army was so strong, he used to answer that it was a great mass kept together through obligation.

The President wrote that had the unity not been based on morality and obligation, and on the pure community of ideology and will, it could not have been so strong…It could defeat the powerful enemy only because it was united ideologically by the ties of loyalty and obligation.
