The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea set forth the programmatic task to build 50 000 flats for the citizens in Pyongyang within the five-year plan period.

At that time, the DPRK people were faced with such enormous challenges and obstacles as the world public health crisis, the anti-DPRK stifling by the enemy and the disastrous abnormal climate. The DPRK people’s struggle to hasten the comprehensive development for building a prosperous and powerful country was unprecedented in its scope and depth and extensiveness of the task.

Even under such circumstances, huge undertaking of building 50 000 flats in the capital city within the five-year plan period was pushed forward more extensively than the original plan, thus completely refurbishing the appearance of the capital city.

10 000 flats were built with sure every year and, as a result, inauguration ceremonies of the Songhwa Street, 10 000 flats of the first-, second-, third- and fourth-stages in the Hwasong area were held with splendour. Many new streets and dwelling houses including the modern Pothong riverside terraced houses district, dwelling houses in the Taephyong area, Jonwi and Saeppyol Streets were built apart from the construction of 50 000 flats.

What was more amazing was that all of them were modern and unique and oriented to the steady pioneering and creating a more fresh and remarkable phase.

As is proved by realities in the DPRK, construction of 10 000 flats in Pyongyang has been promoted most steadily every year during the eighth term of the Party Central Committee.
