The head of delegation courteously asked the President what had been the most important influences that had shaped his personality and his policies.
The President replied that, during the struggle for the independence and prosperity of the country, he learned the truth that if you believe in the people and rely on them you will always emerge victorious and that if you are forsaken by them, you will always fail. He continued that he had made this truth his maxim in leading the revolution and construction, and belief in the popular masses as masters of the revolution and construction and reliance on their strength had constituted his political philosophy. He concluded that he thought this factor had enabled him to devote all his life to the people.
