One December day in 1996, Chairman Kim Jong Il told commanding officers of the Korean People’s Army that it was a steadfast will of the Workers’ Party of Korea to regard it as a pillar of the revolution and make it stand in the van so as to break prevailing deadlock.

The Chairman said that strengthening the People’s Army was a serious problem related to success and failure of the revolution and, therefore, the Party regarded it as a pillar of the revolution, adding that victory can be won only when they regard the People’s Army as a pillar of the revolution and strengthen it.

The Chairman’s words gave the commanding officers of the People’s Army the noble truth that serious prevailing difficulties could be resolved and the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered on Mt Paektu accomplished to the end only when the People’s Army, the revolutionary armed forces of the WPK, was strengthened in every way.
