Socialist Human Rights System Being Perfected in DPRK

    In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, departmental human rights laws are being newly established and some other rules amended and supplemented in line with the daily increasing independent demand of the people so as to perfect the socialist human rights security system.

    Enactment of new departmental human rights laws and their amendment and supplement are being made in the direction of regulating fresh human rights fields reflecting the requirement of developing realities and further enriching the contents of human rights system.
    Their contents are run through with satisfying of the people’s material and cultural demands and ensuring their human rights on a higher level.

    The DPRK established and enforced law on water resources(June 1997), law on prevention of infectious diseases(November 1997), law on controlling medicines(November 1997), law on medical treatment(December 1997), law on food sanitation(July 1998), law on public health(July 1998), etc.
    only in latter half of the 1990s.
    As a result, hygienic and anti-epidemic work had been furthered and the people’s life and health could be protected and promoted even though everything was in short.

    The Socialist Law of Labor were further concretized to enact and enforce the law of work norm(December 2009) and labor protection law(July 2010) and thus remuneration according to the quality and quantity of work done is made on a proper basis and safer and more hygienic and cultural working conditions provided to the working people.
    Such different laws as the law on invention(May 1998), law on industrial design(June 1998) and copyright law(March 2001) that legally protect the rights of an individual who made contributions to the development of science and technology were enacted and enforced so as to further perfect the legal system for guaranteeing the intellectual property rights.
    In particular, the DPRK adopted the law on enforcing the universal 12-year compulsory education was adopted in September 2012 and included it in the Socialist Constitution and the laws related to education so as to perfect secondary general education system on the world advanced level.
    The DPRK also enacted and enforced law on protecting persons with disabilities(June 2003), law on protecting the aged(April 2007), law on securing children’s rights(December 2010) and law on securing women’s rights(December 2010) were newly enacted and enforced, thus providing legal guarantee capable of fully solving the issues of securing the rights of certain collectives with the laws.

    The DPRK is now adopting new human rights laws in line with the developing reality and increasing human rights demand of the people and at the same time amending and supplementing briskly the contents of existing human rights laws.
