February has Ripchun and Usu, and they belong to the 24 seasonal divisions.
Ripchun, the first of the 24 seasonal divisions, falls on the 3rd , 4th or 5th of February and it means the beginning of spring.
Since long ago, the Korean people used to greet Ripchun with their peculiar folk customs.
On the day of Ripchun, they cleaned inside and outside of their houses, sang delight of greeting spring in their poems and prepared foods and drinks of spring fragrance and enjoyed them.
Usu falls on the 18th , 19th or 20th of February, meaning the start of the period when snow melts and spring rain falls.
In this period, the Korean people played yut-game, a tug of war, seesawing, kite-flying and other diverse folk games.
In 2025, Ripchun is the 3rd of February and Usu the 18th of February.
