A newspaper of Brazil carried in March 2009 an article The DPRK Has Encouraged Women to Participate in Socio-political Activities from Long ago.

The DPRK women have already participated actively in the socio-political activities from long time ago. Due to the military occupation by the Japanese imperialists at the beginning of the 20th century, the Korean people were forced to live under slavery and the women to be “comfort women” for the imperial Japanese army. At that time many women participated in the anti-Japanese armed struggle organized and led by President Kim Il Sung to achieve liberation of the country. President Kim Il Sung proclaimed the law of sex equality on July 30, 1946, and from then on, the women have been conducting political activities in the Party, public organization, economic and cultural organs as well as in the state and government organs. The (then) Korean Democratic Women’s Union has become an important organization which implements the WPK’s line to make the women participate actively in the socio-political activities. The Korean Democratic Women’s Union is a genuine women’s organization of the DPRK and it is the most democratic country in the world.
