In August 1947 a woman peasant came to Pyongyang to express thanks to Kim Il Sung for having made her receive land.
Meeting the woman, Kim Il Sung came to know that she was illiterate.
Kim Il Sung explained the woman in detail the necessity of learning and cordially encouraged her to write a letter to him till the end of the year.
Spurred by Kim Il Sung’s gracious encouragement, the woman learned hard to read and write and thus wrote a letter to Kim Il Sung after three months to inform that she got rid of illiteracy and scores of illiterate woman peasants in the village came to read and write.
Kim Il Sung was very satisfied with her letter and sent her reply letter to praise and encourage her highly.
As a matter of fact, that an ordinary woman peasant, who had not been treated as a human being for a long time, exchanged letters with the head of the state was a miraculous event unprecedented in the past.
